Basic reaction to the readings so far?
Those who have read either of these two books, or are reading them for the first time, please provide your reaction to the readings so far. Do you like them, or not? Are they difficult to understand and relate to, or has the author been successful in crossing boundaries and reaching all her readers?

I read a temporary Matter I found it very interesting, although I found the story more of like a relationship struggle in between Shoba and Shukumar. I do see the points where the author mentions the cultural differences that Shoba experiences in between Calcutta, India and The U.S. And how she mention them many times throughout the reading. I like the reading, I can identify myslef with it.
to tell the truth i really like the book so far, i cant seem to figure out yet. maybe because it something you see or hear about everyday, you can really relate to it on a person level
i have never read any of your books until this semester . i found that the reading were easy and understandable from what i have read so far. i am also 2nd generation indian and i found all of similarities of behavior and culture.
I really enjoyed reading the short story "A temporary Matter". I found it relateable in many ways. Shoba and Shukumar stuggled trying to make their marriage work after the mis-carriage. Both suffering from a mis- carriage and having a disfunctual marriage are situations people all over the world face everyday. I would definetly recommend anyone to read IT!!
The Interpreter was a great short story. I really enjoyed reading it.Once again we can tell how the author portrays, two disfunctonal marriages. In rhis case MR. Kapasis and Mr. And Mrs. Das. It doesnt really go deep in details when talking about how bad their relationships are, yet its very obvious. However, we also see how interpreting plays an inportant role in the story. Mr. Kapasi interpreted this Family as one thing and Mrs. Das interpreted Mr. Kapasi as something else. The secrets, the family, the dreams and aspirations of mr kapasi, along with the discfunctional marriage make the story a very good one and easy to relate to. I also liked learing more about india and its wonderful places such as the sun temples which by the way looks amazing[pictures].
A Real Durwan was a good short story. Very unique and enterteining. However, i found the story to be a sad one. I like the character of Boori Ma she is so unique, although she brags a lot about what she used to have in the past and the hardships of her life, I think that she is a very kind women. Like mr. Chaterjee i think too that those stories are a result of the suffering she is probly gone through. Here is another story that anyone can relate to and that reflects the injustice In society. The interpreter of maladies has vvery good stories.
To Tell you the truth the Namesake is a really good novel. I enjoy seeing the tuth behind gogol's name, and why his father named him that, even if gogol did not like his name his whole life. Jhumpa Lahir is an Amazing writer.
I just finished reading the "Namesake" in the beginning it was a bit dragging but after the first couple of chapters, I began to like it. I had an idea of what the ending was going to be like but, while reading you almost can't put the book down.
